AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Austintown for Chester S. Kozen, 86, who passed away Sunday morning at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman.
Chester was born Aug. 15, 1924, in North Tonawanda, N.Y., the son of Stanley and Leonarda Jarzynski Kozen.
Chester served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was a tool and cutter grinder in the fabrication plant for GM Lordstown and retired Feb. 28, 1992. Chester was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph Church. He was an avid traveler and enjoyed polka festivals and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Chester leaves his wife of 62 years, the former Florence Rydzewski, whom he married June 4, 1949; two daughters, Suzanne Jerry Shuster of Sarasota, Fla., and Shari John Zen of Grand Junction, Colo.; three grandchildren, Jerad Jennifer Shuster of Canfield, Adam Katie Shuster of McDonough, Ga., and Daniel Apolinar of Grand Junction, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren, Alexis and Logan, Sydney Shuster and Cadence Apolinar.
Chester was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and five brothers.
Family and friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
