Austintown...Services will be held 10:30AM Friday at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Clyde Hamilton George, 83 who passed away Tuesday morning.
Mr. George was born October 2, 1922 in Warren, the third of 4 sons, the son of Harry and Cora Hamilton George.
He was a 1941 graduate of East High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 where he was assigned to Ft. Benning, GA during the formation of the 10th Armored Division. He was then promoted to T/S and Hq Co. CCA riding motorcycle during Tennessee maneuvers. He left the United States in September of 1944 for Europe. His first combat duty was in Metz, France. He was active in the Battle of the Bulge, Central Europe and Garmish, and Germany at the close of World War II. At the end of World War II, after earning a Bronze Star, he was transferred to the 80th Infantry for service in Czechoslovakia. He returned to the United States and was discharged from Indiantown Gap, PA in 1946. He was employed with Truscon Steel for 12 years and then went on to join the Austintown Township Fire Department as a volunteer fireman. He then became the Austintown Police and Fire Dispatcher, retiring after 27 years of service as the Chief Dispatcher for the Township in 1988. He was also active in scouting and was a Cub Master for Pack 141 at the John Davis School.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, the former Dorothy Niles whom he married June 17, 1944, 2 sons, C. Thomas George of Howland and Donald P. Karen George of Boardman, 2 granddaughters, Carrie Anthony Pasquale and Cassie George, 2 grandsons, Donnie Cindy George and Jacob George, 2 great-granddaughters, Sadie and Serena Pasquale and 2 great-grandsons, Jeffrey and Alexander George.
Friends may call from 5 - 8PM Thursday at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
