POLAND-Services will be Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown for D. Norman "Norm" Baumbaugh age 95 of Shepherd of the Valley in Poland, who entered into eternal life Wednesday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Norm was born March 15, 1909, in Lorain, Ohio the only child of Daniel Emmett and Ella Baumbaugh. His family moved to Lakewood, Ohio when he was 10 years old, and he later graduated from Lakewood High School. He was employed by the May Company in Cleveland where he worked in radio sales, and waslater transferred to the Strouss-Hirshburg Department store in Youngstown working as the manager of its television and radio sales department.
He was a W.W. II veteran serving as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. After his service during the war he became a commercial pilot, and remained a flying enthusiast for many years. In his spare time, Norm played guitar and banjo in several professional bands during his lifetime. He also enjoyed boating on Lake Erie and had completed numerous navigation courses.
He was married to the former Elizabeth Arbaugh Myers of Memphis, Tennessee in 1980, and lived in Memphis until her death in 2001.
He is the proud father of Judith Daniel Welsh of Boardman, and Jeffrey Baumbaugh of Cumming, Georgia, loving grandfather of Mary Jude Detesco John Pakiela of Sagamore Hills, Michelle Detesco Robert Venrose of Canfield, Thomas Maureen Calpin, Colleen Dick Young, Patrick Lynn Calpin all of Orchard Park, N.Y., and Kara Matthew Birmingham of Hamburg, NY, and step grandchildren Chad Heilman of Denver, Colorado, and Kate Heilman Morton of Atlanta, Ga., and twelve great-grandchildren. He was also survived by his son-in-law Thomas Calpin of Orchard Park, NY
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Janis B. Calpin of Buffalo, NY who died in 1991, an infant daughter, and two stepdaughters Anne Myers and Cathy Heilman.
Friends may call from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM Saturday morning at St. Paul the Apostle Church.
