BOARDMAN - Dane Carder, 93, died Sunday, February 23, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 6, 1931, in Romney, West Virginia, the son of Harry and Helen McMullen Carder.
He graduated from high school in Romney and enlisted in the United States Army shortly thereafter.
Dane was proud to have served as the very first Chief of Police of Austintown, leaving an indelible mark on the community he served. He also had a distinguished 34 year career at Youngstown Steel Door where he worked as a press operator, foreman, superintendent, director of manufacturing, and eventually served as part owner.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dane was an active member of the Saxon Club and exhibited his strong values through his affiliation with the Hillman Lodge as a Mason. Dane resided in Ft. Myers, Florida, for over 25 years until returning home in 2022 to be near his family.
Dane is survived by his wife, Edna Durkin Carder; a daughter, Diana (Tony) Alvino of Boardman; as well as four grandchildren, Alison (Matt Caldwell) Alvino, Andrea (Danny Fink) Alvino, Dane Carder III, and Jason Carder; four great-grandchildren, Siena and Logan Caldwell and Wyatt and Reese Fink; and daughter-in-law, Carol Carder of Spring Hill, Florida. He also leaves a step daughter, Sherry Ann Lantz and her daughter Danielle (Neil) McGowan and a step son, Joe Lantz, and his son, Luke, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Vannas Hott Carder; his sisters, Margaret Carder McBride and Dorothy Carder; and his brother, Harry Carder Jr. His son, Dane Carder Jr. passed away two days after his death.
A private funeral service was held at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
