AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will be held Tuesday at 9:15 AM at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Joseph Church for Deacon Michael R. Roberts Jr., 74, who passed away Thursday at his home with his family by his side.
Michael was born Dec. 16, 1942 in Youngstown, a son of Michael R. and Pauline (Terrago) Roberts Sr.
Michael was enrolled in the first class at Immaculate Heart of Mary. He was a 1960 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and attended Youngstown State University. Michael was the manager of the national customer service center for ConRail. He was ordained a Deacon December 15, 1990 and served at Saint Joseph Church in Austintown, where he was the Pastoral Minister until his retirement. He was a 4th Degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus Assembly No. 2596 of Poland, a 1960 Golden Glove Champion, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3298, St. Joseph's Men's Club, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Michael was also an avid golfer and fisherman. He started the St. Joseph Golf League at the church.
Michael leaves his father, Michael Roberts Sr. of Austintown; two daughters, Judy (Glyn) Roberts of Austintown and Michelle (William) DiRenzo of Austintown; a son, Michael A. Roberts of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Casey, Glyn, and Colin Roberts and Carlie DiRenzo; two sisters, Donna Roberts of Columbus and Janice Perry of CA; two brothers, Ralph (Rita) Roberts of Austintown and Nick (Jody) Roberts of Newton Falls.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Roberts.
Family and friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
