YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church for Dolores J. Koontz, 84, who passed away Jan. 22, 2012, at Park Vista Retirement Apartments.
Mrs. Koontz was born Jan. 1, 1928, in New Castle, Pa., a daughter of James Edward Grady and Blanche Granfield Grady.
She was a graduate of Chaney High School, Class of 1945 and on the National Honor Society. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Christine Parish for over 50 years. She was a former member of the Bears Club and Sebring Country Club, where she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Albert E. Koontz, whom she married on July 7, 1951, and who died March 14, 2010; her sister, Blanche Loftus; her infant son, John Koontz; and daughter-in-law, Mara Koontz.
She is survived by her daughter, Colleen and husband Michael Collins of Youngstown; five sons, Gregory Koontz and wife Polly of Houston, Patrick fianceé Laurie Koontz of Youngstown, Michael Koontz and wife Terry of Houston, James Koontz of Youngstown and Thomas Koontz and wife Karen of Snellville, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Stacy Koontz, Kelly John, Michael Bennett, Terra Koontz, Katy Collins, Mickey Collins, Alissa Koontz, Nicole Koontz, and Bridget Koontz; one great-grandchild, Ava John; a sister, Helen Golden of Youngstown; and brother-in-law Frank Loftus of Boardman.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Christine Building Fund.
