NORTH LIMA - A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Dixie Lee Haley, 86, who died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at Caprice Health Care Center in North Lima.
She was born on May 18, 1927, in Mount Carmel, Ill., the daughter of Aleene (Moore) and Frederick Nightlinger.
She had been married to George Dennis Haley, who lives in Ashland.
She was a lifelong learner, first studying to be a nurse at the University of Illinois and later taking several courses at Youngstown State University. She worked in many fields during her life, including working at a regional library system and volunteer work.
She enjoyed several recreational activities, including playing duplicate bridge and won many bridge tournaments.
She enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed taking her children to historical sites.
She is survived by her former husband; a sister, Jeanne Greene (Howard) of Kerrville, Texas; two daughters, Dr. Kathleen Haley-Cowan (Andrew) of Boston and Mary Callan (Norman) of Altoona, Pa.; one son, George of Youngstown; grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah and Jennifer; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and her father.
Family and friends may call Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
