CANFIELD - Prayers will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2015, at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church in Canfield, officiated by Father Terrence J. Hazel, for Domenico "Domenic" Belfiore, 91, who passed away on Monday, May 25, 2015.
Domenic was born Dec. 10, 1923, in Ischia di Castro, Italy, a son of the late Guido and Eda (Renaldi) Belfiore. He came to the United States in 1948.
Domenic was a member of the Italian Army in World War II and was a prisoner of war for two years. When Domenic came to the United States, he worked in the coal mines in West Virginia. He was a police chief in Davey, W.Va. for eight years, worked as a warden at the correctional institution in Minesville, W.Va. for two years, Youngstown Steel Door for 13 years, and the Canfield School System in maintenance and ground keeper at Hilltop Elementary School for 12 years, until he retired in 1993.
Domenic was a member of St. Michael Church. He enjoyed cooking and making wine for his family and friends. His other interests were gardening, hunting and fishing.
Domenic will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Marleen Puhalla, whom he married on July 14, 1979; two sisters, Ana Buccioni and Marisa Buffi, both of Italy; a brother-in-law, Edward M. Puhalla of Avon; three sisters-in-law, Diane (Jack) Stearns of Avon Lake, Denise Murdy and Karen Dropco, both of Amherst; nieces Kaylee Stearns of Avon Lake and Brianna Murdy of Amherst; and nephews Joshua and Brandon Murdy, both of Amherst.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, James Daniel and Patrick Belfiore; a sister, Lena Buccarelli; sister-in-law Ellen M. Puhalla; and four brothers-in-law, Roberto Buccioni, Raffaele Buffi, Connie Buccarelli and Paul G. Dropco.
Family and friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starr's Centre Drive, Canfield.
Internment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.
Domenic's family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley in Columbiana, especially Emma, Jim, Joe and Joanne, for their compassionate care of Domenic.
