Donald Evans Sr

August 29, 1925 — October 30, 2017

POLAND - Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church of New Middletown, with Pastor Larry Klinker officiating, for Donald W. Evans Sr., 92, who passed away Monday at Shepherd of the Valley.
Donald was born Aug. 29, 1925, in Youngstown, a son of the late Oliver C. and Esther (Grishom) Evans.
Donald graduated from Springfield Local High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Donald was a master carpenter and worked for United Engineering. A few years ago, Donald was recognized for his 60 years as a Mason. He held memberships with the Youngstown Chapter No. 93 Royal Arch Masons, Buchner Council No. 109 Royal and Select Masons, and the St. John's Commandery No. 20 Knights Templar.
Donald was well-known throughout New Middletown. He served as their mayor from 1975 to 1983, and served many years on the New Middletown Council. Donald also was their assistant fire chief and an EMT. He had a great love for his church and was a member of the choir at Zion. He was also a 30-year state of Ohio track official.
Donald leaves his wife, the former Sally J. Fisher, whom he married Aug. 24, 2001; his daughter, Carol Jackson of New Castle, Pa.; his son, Donald W. (Kaira) Evans Jr. of New Middletown; his stepchildren, Cheryl L. (Daniel) DeBow of Poland and James (Yimei) Fisher of Poland; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Parker of Poland; and a brother, James (Rita) Evans of Texas.
Donald was also preceded in death by his siblings, Oliver Evans, Jean Gerner, Raymond Evans, Robert Evans, Nancy Cook, and Edward Evans.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel and Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will take place at Zion Cemetery with military honors.
Donald's family would like to give a special thanks to everyone at Shepherd of the Valley for their exceptional care, love and compassion they have shown.
