Liberty - Don Foley Sr., devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and dedicated friend, started a new journey on July 26, 2005. He was born September 21, 1928 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of Francis and Marie Mackin Foley and was one of ten children.
Don Maried his high school sweetheart, the former Jeanne McLaughlin, June 3, 1950 and enjoyed raising 8 children and spoiling 26 grandchildren.
Don was a 1947 graduate of Ursuline High School, four years later he was elected the first President of the Ursuline High School Booster Club. In 1960, Don was the recipient of the Ursuline Principal?s Award. In 1992 he was the honored commencement speaker and in 1994 received Ursuline?s Distinguished Alumnus Award. For 20 years Don had been the chairman of the Ursuline Golf Outing which benefits Ursuline?s Scholarship Fund. He was also the founder and co-chairman of the of the William G. Lyden Jr., golf outing benefitting Ursuline High School and Youngstown State University. In the late 1980?s, Don and his wife Jeanne established the Don and Jeanne Foley Scholarship Fund at Youngstown State University, specifically for Ursuline graduates that were interested in attending YSU.
Don was in the medical industry since 1967. He co-founded Patient Care Center in 1975 and served as its President unitl 1982 when he went on to found Foley Medical, Inc. IN 1986 he merged Family Home Medical in to Foley Medical, Inc., where he served as CEO and Chairman of the Board unitl his retirement in January of 2000.
Don served in the United States Marine Corps and attended Youngstown College and Hammell Actual Business College of Akron.
His love of his community was evident by the number of organizations and causes he championed. He was one of the founders and first elected President of the Mahoning Valley Gaelic Society. Don served on the boards of the American Lung Association, the American Red Cross, Better Business Bureau, Catholic Charities, Ursuline Development Foundation, Parkview Counseling, and Mill Creek Community Development Center. He
was Past President of Goodwill Industries, North Side Citizens Coalition, and YSU Penquin Club. He was a member of the downtown Rotary, Mahoning Valley Historical
Society, St. Edward Church Finance Committee, Irish American Archival Society, and the Youngstown Country Club. He was also one of the YWCA Men of the Year in 1993.
He was appointed by YSU?s President Cochran to serve on the Academic/Athletic Committeee and was on the Board of Trustees of the Youngstown State University
Foundation. In 1990, Don was elected as Youngstown Area Chamber of Commerce ?Small Business Person of the Year?.
Don will be remembered for his big smile, sense of humor, and devotion to his family. Whether it involved golf outings, travelling to the Outer Banks, going to Ireland, or attending football games, his family was always around him.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, his children, Sue Butch Paluga, Peggy Tom Poole, Katey Mike Revak, Don Jr. Lisa Foley all of Youngstown, and Jim Vicki
Foley of Upper Arlington, Michael Mary Beth Foley of Columbus, Kevin Betsy Foley of Dublin, 26 grandchildren, and a sister Eileen Fay.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary, a grandson, Michael Paluga, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters.
The family wll receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 Friday at Higgins-Reardon Funeral, Canfield Chapel. Funeral Serives will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Edward Church, Younsgtown.
