Donald Hoover

CANFIELD - Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church for Donald K. Hoover, 86, who passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Donald was born in Youngstown, Oct. 19, 1927, the son of the late Paul C. and Mabel (Richardson) Hoover.

Donald attended Chaney High School and graduated from West Palm Beach High School in Florida. Donald served as a U.S. Army corporal.

He operated Hoover Sheet Metal for 30 years with his father. Donald's innovative designs and insights led to an industry which evolved into Hoover Concessions. Donald built a fleet of concession trailers for his family owned business that has prospered for 60 plus years, now still continuing as a family-owned business throughout a three state area.

Donald served 20 years as GOSA trustee and as president from 1980 to 1981.

Donald and his wife were Show People of The Year 1984. He was a member of Salem Community Center & Sheet Metal Union. Donald was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church for over 60 years and served on the building committee.

Donald will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Patricia (Connolly), whom he married Sept. 24, 1949; daughters Debby (Michael) Orosz of Salem and Patty Bates of Canfield; four grandchildren, Joey Bates, Robert Bates, Michael Orosz and Allison (Rudy) Kiko; and a great-grandson, Rudy Kiko Jr.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Pursell and Ladonna Evans, and Marsha Paden, who he loved as a daughter.

Family and friends may pay their respects Thursday, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church.

Burial will take place at Calla Cemetery.
