Canfield- Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday in the Good Hope Lutheran Church for Donald Robert Kirk, age 89, of St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center, formerly of Canfield, who died Wednesday morning at the Hospice House surrounded by his family.
Don was born October 22, 1919 in Poland, Ohio to the late Arthur and Lydia Patrick Kirk.
He attended Poland Seminary High School. and was a member of the church. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII, he was proud that he was a Paratrooper serving in the 517th.
Don worked as a Stationary Engineer for 20 years at Youngstown Sheet and Tube from 1948-1968, and for Western Reserve Care System at North Side Hospital from 1969 until his retirement in 1985.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia F. Watkins Kirk, they married April 9, 1947, she died August 4, 2000; two sisters, Gladys Skurna and Edna Kemmis; a brother Clyde E. Kirk.
He is survived by four daughters, Linda Keith Duganne of Boardman, Ellen Ronald Aven of Haslett, Michigan, Kathleen Terry Rudinsky of Columbus, Indiana, and Saundra Sherman Martz of Canfield; two sons, Phillip and Robert Kirk both of Austintown; 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Norrene Redman of Poland.
friends may call Friday from 5-8 pm at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel. friends may also call one hour prior to the services at the Church Saturday morning.
Memorial contributions in Don's memory may be made to the Hospice House.
