AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will begin Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Catholic Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church for Donald L. Mortimer, 81, who died Saturday evening at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Donald was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Youngstown, the son of Dean and Marjorie (Hamilton) Mortimer.
He worked at General Motors on the assembly line for 26 years, until retiring in 1996.
Donald was a member of St. Joseph Church, the Retirees of Local 1112 and the Carving Club at the Austintown Senior Center.
He leaves his wife, the former JoAnn Gamgene, whom he married Nov. 8, 1958; daughter Donna (Col. USMC (Ret.), Doug) Yurovich of Fairfax Station, Va.; son Michael D. (Patty) Mortimer of Youngstown; sister Kay Kalenites of Tampa; six grandchildren, Michael C. Mortimer, Deanna Yurovich Albisu (Alex), Chris J. Mortimer, Garrett P. Mortimer, Jenna J. Davis, and Keith Davis; and one great-granddaughter, Aria Marie Albisu.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother Harold Mortimer; and sister Joyce Wilson.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
