Donald Peterson

CANFIELD – Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at 4 p.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Boardman for Donald L. Peterson, 91, who passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, at Shepherd of the Valley in Poland.

Don was born April 6, 1927, in Youngstown, a son of the late Gustave A. and Marie (Shoemaker) Peterson.

Don was a 1945 graduate of Chagrin Falls High School, then served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He attended Wittenberg University and then Case Technical College, where he received an Electrical Engineering Degree in 1951. Don was VP in charge of Sales at the Economy Electric Company. He served on the board of Goodwill Industries, was a member of the Stambaugh Chorus, and the Canfield Investment Club for many years, and recently got involved w/ Canfield Rotary.

He married his wife, the former Shirley R. Leprich, on June 4, 1950, with whom he enjoyed 66 years of marriage. Shirley passed away June 13, 2016.

Don is survived by his children, Catherine (Daniel) Zwyer of Marblehead, Barbara (Brad) Beardsley of Westerville, Gustave H. Peterson of Lancaster, Thomas L. (Nancy) Peterson of Canton, and Dawn Peterson of Ashville; eight grandchildren, Josette, Tina, Gustave A., Jesse, Jonas, Jessica, Kyle, and Alyssa; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert G. Peterson of Mt. Arlington, N.J.; and sister-in-law Marilyn Leprich of Grand Rapids, Mich.

Don was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles E. Peterson.

Family and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church.
