AUSTINTOWN - Mass will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown for Donald Jay Detwiler, 81, who passed away Friday after a long term illness.
Donald was born April 20, 1928, the son of Marcus E. and Estella Schloneger Detwiler.
He was a kind person, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his devotion to family and his work ethic. Donald also loved gardening and sharing his produce with friends and neighbors. He had a beautiful singing voice and a love of music. He was a retired foreman in the Youngstown Sheet & Tube steel mill and also worked for Austintown schools.
Donald is survived by his nine children, Donald M. Joann Detwiler, Larry Detwiler, Terri Duane Gresh, Christine Detwiler, Karen J.R. Lindquist, Kevin Jamie Detwiler, Eric Zora Detwiler, Mark Lori Detwiler and Johanna Lee Slivinske; 13 beloved grandchildren, Duane Adrienne Gresh, Daniel Sue Bobbie, Mark Bobbie, Jacob Gresh, Jordyn Detwiler, Michael Detwiler, Sonya Detwiler, Devin Detwiler, Rachel Detwiler, Weslie Detwiler, Sasha Detwiler, Erika Detwiler, and Ashley Slivinske; three great-grandchildren; Riley Baker, Myah Bobbie, and Aiden Gresh; five brothers, Ellis Caroline Detwiler, Kenneth Marlene Detwiler, Richard Detwiler, John Cheryl Detwiler, and David Nancy Detwiler; three sisters, Lucille Warren Witmer, Lorene Martin Ruby, and Janice James Ziegler of Dalton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances Janosik Detwiler; parents Marcus E. and Estella Detwiler; brother Rollin Detwiler; and a grandson Dillon Detwiler.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the church.
