YOUNGSTOWN/WARREN – Donna (Binsley) Lyden passed away Friday afternoon, Dec. 28, 2018, with her loving family surrounding her, after a long and arduous battle with COPD.
Donna was born Aug. 5, 1929, to Irma and Paul Binsley, and had been a lifelong resident of the Youngstown area, graduating from South High School.
She married William G. Lyden Jr. in 1950 at the Chapel of Notre Dame University, with many Notre Dame football weekends to follow throughout their life together.
They were blessed with five children, Mary Beth Johns (Charles) of Naples, Fla., William G. Lyden III (recently deceased) and his wife, Mary of Perrysburg, Breen P. Lyden, (Tara) of Perrysburg, Mark E. Lyden (Sherri) of Pepper Pike, and Paul A. Lyden (Laura) of North Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Paul; sisters Betty Ann Callahan and Mary Kay Addington; her husband, Bill (William G. Jr.); and her son, William G Lyden III (Geoff), who recently passed away in November.
Donna was blessed with eight grandchildren, Breen P. Lyden Jr. (Dedra), Jennifer Uhrich (Marc), Lindsay Niese (Dan), Dean Bailey Lyden, Colleen Mayer (Pat), Paul A. Lyden Jr., William Lyden IV, and Sean M. Lyden (Claire). They in turn gave her the joys of six great-grandchildren, Kayley Mae Lyden, Fiona, James and Elliot Lyden, along with Harper Lyden and Teagan Anne Mayer.
Donna worked at the Lyden Oil Company for 14 years (1984-1998), and was instrumental in the founding of the Convenient Store division of Fast Check Food Marts. Today the family continues the business legacy with True North Energy convenience stores in several states, as well as Lyden Oil Company bulk oil distribution. The Lyden Family and their companies will celebrate their 100th anniversary in the New Year. The matriarch will surely be missed!
She was a lifelong member of The Youngstown Country Club, where she would be seen often as an avid and excellent bridge player. She was a supporter of the Stambaugh Pillars, endowing the Steinway piano for the auditorium. She was also associated with the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart Auxiliary, The Ladies of Charity, United Appeal Leadership Circle and Junior Newman
The family must thank the devoted caregivers this past year who showed constant compassion, love and tenderness toward their mother. “We thank Liz, Brittany and Luke for never leaving her alone and providing the ‘wind beneath her wings.’”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at St. Edward Church, officiated by Msgr. Robert Siffrin and Fr. Richard Murphy with interment at Calvary Cemetery to follow.
Friends may call on Wednesday morning from 9 to 10:45 a.m. before the Mass at St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane in Youngstown.
Professional arrangements have been entrusted to the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
