YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will be held Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Parish for Dorthea J. Wilhelm, 82, who passed away Saturday at her daughter's home.
Dorthea was born May 28, 1935, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Joseph A. Biro and Rose Mary (Spadaccini) Biro-Hughes.
Dorthea was a 1953 graduate of East High School.
She was a waitress for 50 years, spending 30 of those years at the The Lodge. She loved boating, water-skiing, and spending time in her pool, surrounded by friends and family and the beautiful flowers her green thumb tended. She was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Her husband, Kenneth R. Wilhelm, whom she married Feb. 16, 1957, passed away Aug. 5, 2013.
Dorthea leaves her daughter, Sharalyn (George Jr.) Beelen of Austintown; two granddaughters, Sarah (Joseph) Bobby-Cercone and Laura (fiance, Joshua Serbin) Bobby; a great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Ahonui Cercone; three step-grandchildren, George (Shannon) Beelen III, Meghan Beelen and her son, Conner Sullivan and Aimee Beelen and her daughter, Makenzie Fink; a sister, Ruth "Trudy" Congemi of Struthers; a half brother, Michael Hughes of Boardman: nephews Rev. Joseph (Jennifer) Congemi of Columbiana, Mark Jordan (Martha Rice) of Youngstown, Martin Jordan of Florida; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as her beloved pet cockatiel, Christopher.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Florence Jordan.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
