Dorothy C. Kumik, 87
BOARDMAN - Services will be Monday at 9:30 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel and at 10:00 AM at St. Christine Church for Dorothy C. Kumik age 87 who passed away early Saturday morning at Beaghley Oaks Care Center after a brief encounter with cancer. Dorothy was born June 11, 1920, in Youngstown, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine Sobnowski Marszewski. She was a graduate of the Rayen School, and later worked as the evening Manager for the Southpark Restaurant. She was a longtime member of St. Christine Church, and served as treasurer of its Senior Citizen's group. She was also a member of the Lady's Auxiliary Post # 87 of the Polish Legion of American Veterans. Dorothy enjoyed playing games of chance and a variety of card games and is remembered as an excellent wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a wonderful cook and baker, who was infamous for her chicken noodle soup and cherry nut chiffon cake.
She is survived by her husband Frank J. Kumik whom she married January 25, 1941, two daughters, Joanna Kumik of Oakland, California, Peggie and husband Bob Karis of Poland, a son Jack and wife Sallie Kumik of Austintown, four grandchildren Eric and Jeffrey Kumik, and Michelle and Michael Karis, and a brother Bill Marshall of Youngstown.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Stella Sterling, and Martha Summers, and two brothers, Kenneth Marshall, and Joseph Marszewski.
Friends may call from 6 PM to 8 PM Sunday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
