BOARDMAN - A prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church in Boardman for Mrs. Dorothy Jane Petrony, 81, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was born in Campbell, on May 18, 1935, a daughter of Peter and Sophie (Fiffick) Dubos.
She graduated from Campbell Memorial High School, and worked at Livingston's and the Commercial Credit Corporation before dedicating her life to her family.
Dorothy met Frank Petrony at Danceland in Struthers, and they were married on Jan. 31, 1953. They moved to Boardman, where they raised their four children and were blessed with 61 wonderful years together until Frank's death in August of 2014.
Dorothy formed many lifelong friendships with the members of her various clubs. She was a member of the Appleridge Garden Club, the Applewood Golf League and several card clubs. She was also a member of the Youngstown Country Club and the Lake Club. Her Catholic faith was important to her and she was a member of St. Charles Church and St. Stanislaus Church.
Dorothy enjoyed serving others for 31 years as a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital. A loving wife, a wonderful mom and the best "Baba," she was happiest when surrounded by her family. Her hands were never idle, as she was cooking, baking, or doing needlework. Dorothy was an incredible homemaker and had a kind, warm personality, making everyone feel welcome in her home.
She is survived by her four children, Elaine (Charlie) Mauch, Bonnie (Ron) Stoops, Marilyn (Eddy) Handel and John (Mari) Petrony; 12 grandchildren, Tara (Chris) Reuscher, Jonathan (Christina) Mauch, Dan Mauch, Melanie (Justin) Kurzweil , Ron (Jenna), Joe and John Stoops, Brad (fiance Alex), Jen (fiance Matt) and Mark Handel, and Luke and Matthew Petrony; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Macala; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; two brothers, John and Stephen Dubos; and a sister, Helen Dubos.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512, in memory of Dorothy.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
