Dorris Christine Niswander, 88, of Boardman, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 14, 2018, at The Assumption Village in North Lima.
Born September 21, 1929, in Bluefield, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Alfred and Elsa Carter, and was one of 8 children.
Dorris married Lee A. Niswander on June 9, 1949. He passed away on March 21, 2012. They built their dream beach house on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Some of her happiest memories are from the times spent there.
Later in life, Dorris returned to college, obtaining her Bachelor of Arts and her Master's of Science in Education, majoring in Social Work from YSU. She worked for Parkview Counseling for many years as a mental health therapist. She was a member of Country Lane Garden Club for over 50 years, finding her life long friends and enjoying their monthly meetings and luncheons. She was a member of Boardman United Methodist Church.
Dorris leaves her daughters, Suzanne (Tony) Oddo of Canfield, Lyn (Bob) Handel of Seattle,Debra Fabanish of Monrovia, CA.,her grandchildren, Jeremy, Christina and Jacquelyn Oddo,Carter and Alex Handel, Nicholas and Catherine Fabanish and her brother, Lowell Carter of Lake City Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 11:00 am at Green Haven Memorial Gardens Chapel, 3495 S Canfield-Niles Rd, Canfield, OH. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the services at the services at the cemetery chapel. Care was entrusted to Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Assumption Village-Special Care Unit and they appreciate the compassionate care her mother received from the Hospice of The Valley. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice House of the Valley, in Dorris's name.
