POLAND - Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, for Douglas E. Warrick, 47, who passed away at home after a six-month illness, surrounded by his family.
Doug was born December 13, 1965, in Ames, Iowa, to Virginia "Ginny" M. (Bender) Gilmore. Doug and his family moved from Iowa to Mineral Ridge in 1977 where he formed many lasting friendships.
He was a graduate of Mineral Ridge High School and ITT Technical Institute, and received an associate degree in civil engineering from Youngstown State University. He was employed by Aqua Ohio for 23 years as a designer in the engineering department. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mineral Ridge.
Doug enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching NASCAR and dirt track racing. He especially loved his summer beach vacations with his nieces and nephews, his annual Thanksgiving trip to Iowa, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie S. Goricki, whom he married Dec. 15, 2012, after 22 years together; his mother Ginny Gilmore of Mineral Ridge; a stepson, Robert Goricki of Lakewood, Ohio; a sister, Robin Warrick and her children Chad, Bret and Makayla of Austintown; a brother Tom (Rose) Warrick and their children Matt, Megan and Brittany of Boone, Iowa; sister-in-law Sandy Stanislav (Kirk Snively) and her children Kristyn and Andrew of Canfield, Ohio; and four half-brothers, Mark, Jerry, Bruce and Cody Warrick and their families of Boone.
Doug was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert F. Gilmore, his grandparents Russell O. and E. Marie Bender, and his inlaws Charles and Margaret Korchnak.
Family and friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Senior Independence Hospice for the special care given to Doug during his illness.
