POLAND - A memorial service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Church in New Middletown for Dr. Angelo F. Petrolla, 61, who died Sunday morning at the Cleveland Clinic after a brief battle with cancer.
Angelo was born Nov. 11, 1951, in Youngstown, the son of Fred and Lola (Deramo) Petrolla.
He graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1969 and attended Youngstown State University, where he was a member of the golf team. He earned his doctorate in Podiatric medicine from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. He and his beloved wife, Dr. Heather Petrolla shared a practice in this area for over 37 years.
He was a member of the Boardman United Methodist Church and had been a member of the Rotary Club of Canfield.
Angelo had a lifelong love of Christmas and was known for his Christmas decorating. Each year he would adorn his home with over 40,000 Christmas lights. He also shared his collection with the community, where items from his collection were displayed at the annual Memories of Christmas Past exhibit at the Arms Family Museum. He was also a member of the Golden Glow of Christmas Past Collectors Organization.
Angelo was also known as a Corvette enthusiast and won national awards for the work he had done, winning the prestigious Bloomington Gold Award. He was a regular at local car shows.
Angelo was the President of the Ohio Podiatric Medical Association and was currently serving as the Secretary-Treasurer and was the current Delegate. Angelo was known for his humorous, light hearted and kind personality and his love for The Ohio State Buckeyes football team.
He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Heather Davis, whom he married March 24, 1973; his father, Fred Petrolla of New Middletown; a daughter, Dr. Amber (Dr. Ahmed) El-Halaby; a son Dr. Justin (Dr. Diana Baca) Petrolla of Pittsburgh; a sister, Pattie (Tom) Welsh of New Middletown; a brother, Joseph M. (Christine) Petrolla of Poland; and three grandchildren, Lola, Luca and Lara.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lola Petrolla.
