CANFIELD - Funeral services will be Thursday at noon at the Old North Church for Dr. Edward M. “Ted” Hobbs Jr., 84, who passed away peacefully Thursday evening at Ohio Living Park Vista with his family by his side.
Ted was born Sept. 2, 1934, in Wilmington, Del., a son of the late Edward M. and Jeanette (Bradford) Hobbs Sr.
Ted graduated from the University of Delaware and then Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. He interned in Erie, Pa. In 2014, Ted retired from his primary-care practice in Austintown after 50 years.
He was a board member at Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital for many years. He had a practice treating opioid addiction, in addition to his family medicine practice.
Ted loved playing tennis, and was an avid sports fan. He coached little league boys baseball in Canfield. He was president of the Canfield youth recreational soccer league, and a band parent for Canfield Bands, going on many band trips. He was also president of Canfield Swim & Tennis Club for a brief term.
Ted is survived by his daughter, Nikki (Brad) Hershfeldt of Ravenna; a son, Brad (Krista) Hobbs of Columbus; and three grandchildren, Lydia and Hazel Hobbs and Josephine Hershfeldt.
Ted was also preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Janice (Bob) Lloyd.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, and Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Old North Church.
