CANFIELD - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Michael Church, officiated by Father Terrence Hazel, for Dr. James F. Marsico DDS, 70, who died suddenly Friday evening at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Dr. Marsico, affectionately known as "Jim," was born on Sept. 17, 1945, in Warren, son of Vincent and Louise (Protomastro) Marsico.
Jim was a 1963 graduate of Ursuline High School. Following high school, Jim enrolled at The Ohio State University, later graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, and then with a doctoral degree from The Ohio State University's College of Dentistry in 1971. Following graduation, he served in both the U.S. Army and Air Force Dental Corps. He spent his career working as a family dentist in the Mahoning Valley.
He loved being active, whether it was kayaking on the Youghiogheny River, biking at Hilton Head, or playing with his grandchildren. He was an avid reader and history lover, and he enjoyed exploring new places.
Jim was proud of his Italian roots and supported local events such as the Canfield Fourth of July celebration and the Canfield Fair. He was passionate about sports, with an unwavering love for the under dog, Notre Dame football and the Cleveland Indians.
Raised with a strong Catholic faith, he was devoted to St. Michael Parish and had a big heart for those less fortunate.
Jim leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Vincent and Louise Marsico of Columbus; his loving wife of nearly 47 years, the former Susan Dodge, whom he married on June 7, 1969; daughters Amy (Nicholas Troccoli) Marsico of New York, Erin (Edward) Kagel of Columbus, and Annie (John Oswalt) Marsico of Columbus; one brother, David (Jana) Marsico of Columbus; grandchildren Daniel and Elena Kagel; mother-in-law Norma Dodge of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, and again, Thursday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at the church.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, material tributes be made in Jim's name to the Beatitude House, 238 Tod Lane, Youngstown, OH 44504.
