Earl Ashby, Jr.
Austintown- Earl Ashby, Jr., age 84 of Austintown died Thursday at Parma Hospital following a brief illness.
Earl was born June 17, 1923 in Youngstown to the late Earl and Eva Palmiter Ashby.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII; Earl was a member of the 101st "Screaming Eagles" landing at Omaha beach in Normandy, France; he was also trained as a glider pilot, during his tour in Europe he recieved the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Disabled American Vets, Chapter 2 Youngstown, and the IOOF in Canfield for over 66 years.
Besides his parents he is proceded in death by his wife the former Betty Davidson whom he married June 19, 1946; a brother Pete Ashby, and four sisters, Doris Heck, Hazel Heck, Beatrice Showen, and Jane Heck.
Earl leaves two daughters, Chris Leonard Funk of Parma, Cathleen Ashby of Warren, five sons, Earl Jan Ashby, III of St. Charles, Mo., William Sherry Ashby of Scquamish, Wa., Mike LeAnn Ashby of Youngstown, James Sandra Ashby of Deerfield, Oh., and Matthew Ashby of Cleveland, 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, a sister Thelma Ashby of Austintown, and a brother Clarence Ashby of North Jackson, several nieces, nephews and good friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
