BOARDMAN ? Prayers will begin Monday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church for Edith Lariccia, 81, who died Thursday morning at Hospice House, surrounded by her family.
Edith was born June 12, 1928, in Youngstown, the daughter of Michele and Angeline Marino Gianfrancesco.
She was a 1947 graduate of South High School and attended Youngstown State University. She had worked from 1950 to 1960 as an accounting technician for the Federal Government at the Lordstown Ordinance Reservation. Mrs. Lariccia also worked with her husband, Michael, as the owner operators of Lariccia?s Italian Foods for many years.
Perhaps ?Nonna?s? most treasured memories comes from helping raise her four granddaughters. Whether it be a car ride home from school or a homemade dinner every Monday, Edith took pride in caring for her grandkids.
A member of St. Charles Church, she volunteered in its soup kitchen, and attended daily Mass. Known by some as the ?universal grandmother,? Edith was never shy to correct her granddaughter?s friends on dough rolling in the kitchen or making Easter bread the way she liked.
Her husband, Michael Lariccia, whom she married Oct. 15, 1955, died Feb. 1, 1983.
She is survived by her three daughters, Lesa Lariccia of North Lima, Gina Lariccia of Poland and Tessa Michael Allegretto of Boardman; a sister, Nancy DelSignore of Boardman; two brothers, Joseph Joan Gianfracesco of Boardman and Michael Jean Gianfrancesco of Poland; four grandchildren, Alyvia and Giana Allegretto and Alexandrea and Tessa Thomas.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Vona; and two brothers, Danny and Anthony Gianfrancesco.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
Edith?s family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice House in her memory.
