SARASOTA, FLA. - Prayers will begin Saturday, March 29, at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., celebrated at St. Charles Church for Edith Ranelli, 79, who passed away Tuesday morning, March 4, 2014, from complications due to Parkinson's.
She was born April 17, 1934, in Campbell to John and Philomena (Mariani) D'Alesandro.
Edith graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951.
She worked for Strouss in the office and later in sales and Loblaws Grocery Warehouse.
She was a member of St. Charles Church and the ladies bowling league, Fonderlac CC Ladies Bowling League, as well as the Pacentrani Ladies Guild and Bocce League. She was the chairman of the Christmas Decorating Committee of Penshurst Park.
Edith was an excellent cook, but loved to bake even more. She was the perfect hostess when she entertained.
She married Anthony Lalama on Feb. 6, 1954. They had two children. He died Jan. 14, 1964. In 1969, she married Dominic Ranelli. He died Jan. 9, 2000.
Edith is survived by her son, John Lalama; her daughter, Michele (Ben) Nydegger, with whom she made her home; and her son, D. Nathan Ranelli; her sister, Eileen Volpini; her brother Ronald (Marisa) D'Alesandro; brother-in-law, Raymond (Melody) Ranelli; sister-in-law, Jan Ranelli; and her oldest and dearest friend, her adopted sister, Catherine Morris; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Roncone; and brothers, Arthur, Eugene, and John D'Alesandro.
Edith's family wishes to thank Dr. Santuccio Riccardi for a proper diagnosis, Dr. Debra Burke, with the Movement Disorder Clinic, Dr. Dratler and staff at Caresouth, Tim Eisenmann, her massage therapist, and her main caregivers, Carlos Dicinitio and Linda Doran.
Friends may call Friday, March 28, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
