AUSTINTOWN - Services will be Saturday at 9:15 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, and at 10:00 AM at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church for Edward F. Racek age 86 of Austintown who passed away Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Edward was born December 3, 1917, in Youngstown, the son of Martin and Mary Kikta Racek.
He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Mary, and his step father Michael Racek who raised him from infancy.
Edward was a graduate of South High School, had attended Youngstown College, and was a W.W.II Army veteran.
He retired from the Austintown Board of Education where he worked in the Audiovisual Department at Austintown Fitch High School, and served as the clerk of the Austintown Board of Education. Edward also served as auditor of the Austintown School Employees Credit Union.
He was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church and its Infant Jesus of Prague Society. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed golfing, was a NASCAR enthusiast, and enjoyed traveling.
He was a life member and past commander of the Austintown American Legion Post # 30, a member of the Austintown democratic club, and a charter member of the Austintown Historical Society.
He is survived by three sisters, Margaret Repasky of Boardman, Mary Howard Cook of Austintown, and Elizabeth Stroney of Youngstown, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 4 PM to 7 PM Friday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, where a prayer service will be held by the Austintown American Legion at 6:45 PM.
