Eileen Hammond

AUSTINTOWN - Eileen R. Hammond, 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Austintown, OH, on January 7, 2025, surrounded by her cherished loved ones. 

Born on April 3, 1931, in Youngstown, OH, to the late Charles Griesser and Ruth (Swanson) Griesser, Eileen was a beacon of compassion, embodying the true essence of family and devotion.

Eileen met the love of her life, Joseph G. Hammond, and were married on July 14, 1951. Throughout her life, she was a dedicated homemaker, always present for her children as they grew up, nurturing them with her loving spirit. She was not just a mother but a steadfast friend and supporter, whose laughter and wisdom guided her family through life's challenges. Eileen's home was a welcoming haven where love flourished and happy memories were woven into the fabric of her family's lives.

Eileen possessed a notable personality that made everyone feel at ease in her presence. Her home was often filled with joy, whether gathering around the dining table for lively card games, tackling puzzles that sparked engaging conversations, or huddling around the television to cheer on her favorite sports teams. Eileen cherished the times spent camping and the adventures she shared with her husband, Joseph, traveling to Florida where they created countless memories in their trailer in New Smyrna Beach.

Eileen leaves behind a loving legacy through her daughters Jacqueline (Bruce) McMillan, Anna Hammond, and Eileen (Jeffrey) Mitchell, along with her son John (Toni) Hammond, son-in-law Dow Davis, and daughter-in-law Sue Hammond. The bonds she nurtured within her family are profound, as she also proudly cherished each of her 31 grandchildren, along with her 27 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her light forward in their lives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph G. Hammond; daughter Charlene Davis; grandson Dow Davis; son Joseph Hammond; and siblings, sister Dorothy Kearns and brothers John and William Griesser. 

A Visitation will be held in her honor on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a Funeral Service starting at 12:30 PM, all taking place at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home - Austintown Chapel located at 4303 Mahoning Ave, Youngstown, OH, 44515.
