POLAND — Elaine N. Stroup, 85, died peacefully, Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at Hospice House.
Elaine was born March 6, 1939, in Youngstown, the daughter of John and Helen Fashank Parknavy.
She was a graduate of North High School and worked an impressive 37 years for the Poland School District as a middle school monitor. She enjoyed her time working with the kids and always said, “I loved trying to make being in school a safe place for all the kids, and I am grateful for the good kids, even those who were a ‘pain in the ass’ and they know who they are!” Elaine retired in 2012.
She was a member of the Sorelle Society, Women’s Garden Club, DARE singles group and past president of the Poland staff and bus drivers union.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Jeff) Geltz of Berthoud, Colorado; two grandchildren, Brad Geltz (JoAnna Kohlmeyer) of Beaverton, Oregon, and Bryan (Melania) Geltz of Colorado; two great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Benjamin Geltz; and several cousins, including Kathy Lutz and Ange Ciavarella, whom she thought of as siblings.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Porter Stroup, whom she married July 28, 1956, and who died July 6, 1995; and daughter, Nancy H. Stroup.
Family and friends may call 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.
Elaine will be laid to rest in Poland Riverside Cemetery.
