POLAND - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Church in Canfield for Elaine Tomerlin Terreri, 85, who passed away Sunday evening at Hospice House.
Elaine was born March 30, 1926, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Loretta Schmidt Tomerlin.
She was a 1944 graduate of South High School and had been a member of its Reunion and Luncheon committees. She attended Youngstown College Business School, where she was a member of Alpha Iota Sorority. During World War II she was a stenographer at the Pentagon with the War Dept. Returning home, she was a secretary at the Youngstown Steel Door Co. After her marriage in 1948, she lived in Columbus while her husband completed college at The Ohio State University.
Elaine was very active in her church and children's school as Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Mothers Guild and Altar Guild Secretary, Eucharistic Minister, Altar Server for funerals, Chairperson and member of Adult Education Committee and member of Parish Council. As a member of Canfield AARP No. 3104, she served as Secretary and Board Member and enjoyed their many trips. She enjoyed cruises and traveled with family and friends. She was also a member of the Youngstown Saxon Club and enjoyed dinner groups with friends.
She moved to Poland Shepherd of the Valley in January 2005, where she was secretary of the Residents Association for three years and on the Flag Committee. During this time she was on a TV commercial. She also enjoyed golfing at the Mill Creek Course.
The love of her life, Joseph D. Terreri, whom she met in high school, died of Lou Gehrigs Disease on May 29, 1993, after 45 years of marriage.
Elaine leaves her two children, Gail Joseph Soboloski of Ivyland, Pa. and Daniel J. Kathleen Terreri of Lake Milton; six grandchildren, Kyle Faith Terreri, Justin Soboloski, Danielle Terreri, Jillian Terreri, Sean Soboloski and Kevin Soboloski; and a great-granddaughter, Elyse Terreri.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at St. Michael Church in Canfield.
Material tributes may take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley or St. Michael Church.
