AUSTINTOWN - A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive in Boardman for Elinor Jane Halliday, 90, who went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at Briarfield Manor in Austintown.
Elinor was born on Sept. 16, 1927, in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Wesley K. and Elizabeth A. (McGrath) Mills.
She graduated from Collingswood High School, and then attended Steelman Business College in Philadelphia.
While working as a fashion consultant for Bonwitt Teller in Philadelphia, she met and married Samson Halliday, a sales engineer for Barry Bronze Bearing Co. in 1953, which later brought them to Youngstown in 1960.
Elinor was active in her community in many organizations. She was a volunteer for many years in her favorite charity, Angels for Animals, as well as Fellows Riverside Gardens, Butler Institute of Art, The Youngstown Symphony Guild, docent at Mahoning Valley Historical Society, and a member of Country Lane Garden Club. She was a former member of Fonderlac Country Club and was a member of The Red Hat Lizzies and the Cosmopolitan Dance Club.
She was a loving wife to her husband, Sam, who died on July 4, 1988.
She will be remembered by her three sons, Stephen (Lynne) Halliday, Jeffery (Tonya) Halliday, and John Halliday; four grandchildren, Kristi (Austin) Solem, Todd (Ashley) Halliday, Christian, and Jacob; and three great-grandchildren, Brooks and Jack Solem and Brayden Halliday, all residing in Atlanta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Elinor name to Angel for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield, OH 44406.
