Elvira Lucansky

February 25, 1925 — November 1, 2017

BOARDMAN - Prayers will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, St. Matthias Church, with Fr. John Jerek officiating, for Elvira Ann (Giura) Lucansky, 92, who passed away Wednesday evening at her home.

Elvira was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Tommaso and Pia (Vecchione) Giura.

Elvira loved her family and friends. Her home was always full of love and laughter, and everyone was welcome. She enjoyed time spent outside working in her yard. To beautify her neighborhood, she started a small flower garden at the corner of Indianola and Gibson, across from the old Woodrow Wilson High School. She was a longtime member of St. Matthias Church since 1947. One of her cherished pastimes was playing cards with her sisters.

Elvira leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Bernadine (Michael) Jacobs of Toledo; son-in-law Adam Richards, whom she made her home with and who took loving care of her; her grandchildren, Adam (April) Richards, Craig (Valerie) Richards, Heather (Andy) Barber, and Andrew Jacobs; great-grandchildren James Barber and Clare Richards; a sister, Josephine Ciavarella; a niece, Mary (Rick) Cunningham, who helped care for her; and many nieces and nephews.

Elvira also rejoins her husband of 61 years, Andrew B. Lucansky, who passed away in 2008; her daughter, Loretta Ann Richards; her sisters, Mary, Sue, and Lucy; and her brothers, Carmen and Michael.

Special hugs to her caregivers, Adam Richards, Mary Cunningham, Heather and Andy Barber, Adam and April Richards and Craig Richards.

Family and friends may call Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

"We will always carry her memory in our hearts."
