AUSTINTOWN - Services will be on Saturday, March 14, at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown, for Mr. Emil J. Basista, 86, who died Wednesday morning at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 4, 1922 in Campbell, a son of Martin and Mary Zets Basista.
Emil was a World War II Army Air Force veteran, serving in the Pacific, and a 1942 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. He had worked at Truscon Steel for 11 years as a press operator and then worked for the Austintown School System at Woodside Elementary School as the maintenance-foreman for 26 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the OPSE Union and a charter member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
He was married to the former Marie C. Poschner, whom he married Sept. 25, 1948, and she died Oct. 16, 2002.
Emil leaves two sons, Emil M. Donna Basista of Middleburg Heights and Michael J. Florence Basista of Austintown; two sisters, Marie Olexa of Florida and Clara Basista of Campbell; three brothers, Edward Marie Basista of Boardman, William Sally Basista of Austintown and Martin Theresa Basista of Coitsville; and his pride and joy, his four grandchildren, Brandon Basista of Germany, Jessica, Michelle and Brian Basista of Austintown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, and his brother, Steve.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in memory of Emil.
