AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church for Emil H. "Pete" Peterson, 81, who passed away peacefully Tuesday morning in the home that he built 50 years ago.
Pete was born June 28, 1936, in Gray, Pa., a son of the late, Charles and Mary (Bennedict) Peterson.
Pete served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1956 to 1958. He was a self employed carpenter for 40 years, retiring in 2000 from the Local 171. He also worked part time in maintenance at Simco Management.
He loved fishing, hunting and was a member of the Mahoning County Archery Club in North Jackson.
Pete was considerate and would do anything for anyone. He was always willing to lend a hand to friends and fellow neighbors while never asking for anything in return.
Pete leaves his wife, the former Dolores J. Macala, whom he married Sept. 21, 1957; a son, Ronald (Jennifer) Peterson of Longs, S.C.; a son-in-law, Michael McHenry of Canfield; two grandchildren, Matthew and Jason Bagoly; three stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Everett, Jessica Amodio, and Megan Tanner; seven great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Leisha Zolla of Lowellville and Marianne Commorato of Palm Harbor, Fla.
Pete was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl McHenry; a sister, Barbara Polak; and a brother, Gene Peterson.
Family and friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery with military honors.
