POLAND A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers for Ernest ³Ernie² S. Kalenits, 82, who died Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Ernie was born March 29, 1926 in Youngstown, a son of Andrew and Helen Yuhas Kalenits and was a lifelong area resident.
Ernie was the well-known operator of Ernie¹s Barber Shop on the West Side of
Youngstown for 29 years. He then worked in security and maintenance for St. Elizabeth Health Center for 14 years, retiring in 1991. He attended Chaney High School before enlisting in the Navy during WWII.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Church and SNPJ Lodge No. 776. His hobbies were fishing, gardening, Hungarian cooking, polka music and jigsaw puzzles.
He leaves his wife, the former Cathy Tonya, whom he married December 4, 1982; two daughters, Suzanne Ed Whittaker of Amherst and Barbara ³BJ²Chuck Longbottom of Columbiana; two sons, David Mary Kalenits of
Streetsboro and Chuck Annette Kalenits of Austintown; a sister Helen Solomon of Youngstown; four brothers, Julius Edith Kalenits of Youngstown, William Kay Kalenits of Tampa, Fla., Frank Ann Marie Kalenits and Don
Jo Ann Kalenits both of Youngstown; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and one due in December; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Prince.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, family and friends.
