YOUNGSTOWN - Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Ernest C. Walker, 83, who passed away early Sunday morning at Victoria House.
Ernest was born July 9, 1926 in Youngstown, the son of the late Benjamin and Edna Ramhoff Walker.
Ernest attended school in Meadville. Ernest was a veteran in the Navy serving in World War II in the South Pacific. He resided in Meadville until the time of service in 1944 then went to Erie to work for G.E. Co. and then got married and moved back to Youngstown.
Ernest also worked at Idora Park, WRTA and David Joseph Boiler Works. Ernest became an electrician and a crane man for Youngstown Steel Door for 19 years, retiring in 1982.
Ernest was a member of the VFW Post 4192 in Mineral Ridge; The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio and of Hillman; Aut Mori of Youngstown; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite 32nd of Youngstown Consistory Lodge; and Eagles Aerie on Raccoon Road.
His wife, the former Janette Beck, whom he married Sept 18, 1948, passed away Feb. 14, 1999.
Ernest leaves three sons, Stan Mary Walker of Haines City, Fla., Edward A. Jeannine Walker of Austintown and James L Betty of Streetsboro; three brothers, Dick Peppie Walker of Jacksonville, Fla., Chuck Kathy Walker of Niles and Harry Toshi of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren, Timothy Chrystal Walker and Michele Christopher Puckett; two step grandchildren, Tabetha Phillis and Virgil Phillis Jr.; and six great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, Ernest was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Tomar; and four brothers Bob, Ed, David and Jack Walker.
The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
