Evelyn Velardo

LAKES WALES, FLA. - Prayers will begin Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church for Evelyn Velardo, 95, who died early Thursday morning at home.

Evelyn was born April 9, 1920, in Youngstown, the daughter of Charles and Edith (Circelli) Stella.

She was a 1938 graduate of South High School and dedicated her life to raising her family. Evelyn was also an enrolled agent with H&R Block for 30 years. She enjoyed golfing and bowling. Evelyn was a longtime member of St. Dominic Church, a member of the Mahoning Valley Council for Cub Scouts, and was a den mother for Cub Scouts.

Evelyn's husband, Nick Velardo, whom she married May 23, 1942, died in April of 2002.

She is survived by two sons, Nicholas Velardo of Clermont, Fla., and Michael (Suzanne) of Hernando, Fla.; two grandchildren, Michael Velardo and Melissa Kemp; and four great-grandchildren, Deborah, Nicole and Laura Velardo and Ryan Kemp.

Evelyn was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marge Bartholomew and Mercedes Passella.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
