NORTH JACKSON - Evelyn M. Wirtz, 74, passed away Monday, Sept. 26, at the Hospice House.
She was born on June 21, 1938, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late George M. Christoff and Mary Hanchin-Merrill.
Evelyn was a 1956 graduate of Ursuline High School and a four year member of the National Honor Society. She continued her education after entering the Sisters of Augustine Convent in Bedford and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Youngstown.
In addition to hospital work, she was employed as a secretary/bookkeeper at several Youngstown businesses.
Evelyn's talents were evident in her works of art as she was active in the Embroiderers Guild and was a charter member of the Western Reserve Knitting Guild.
She loved spending time gardening and being surrounded by her family. More importantly, she was a devoted wife and mother. Evelyn's selfless and faith filled life will be cherished and carried on through the lives of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, John Francis Sr., whom she married Sept. 5, 1966. She leaves her daughter, Lisa Ann Secora and son-in-law, Christopher Secora of Twinsburg; and her three sons, John Francis Jr. of Medina, Mark Robert Wirtz and daughter-in-law, Kendra Wirtz of North Jackson, and Michael Paul Wirtz and daughter-in-law, Jenna Wirtz of Poland.
She loved her 10 grandchildren, Michael, Magan and Jason Secora and Jacob, Nicholas, Ava, Audrey, Jack, Bridget and Henry Wirtz.
She is also survived by her mother, Mary Merrill and three brothers, George Christoff of Hubbard, Edward Merrill of Liberty and Thomas Merrill of Wisconsin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Michael Catholic Church in Canfield, Ohio at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Calling hours will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Internment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Youngstown.
