Frances Chickonoski

February 21, 1935 — August 25, 2018

CANFIELD - Frances M. Chickonoski, 83, entered into eternal glory surrounded by her loving family on Aug. 25, 2018. A memorial service celebrating Frances’ life will be held at the Old North Church in Canfield on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, at 4 p.m.

Frances was born to Eleonora and Antonio Pecoraro Jr. in Detroit, on Feb. 21, 1935, just a few hours before her future husband, Perry J Chickonoski Sr., who passed away Dec. 22, 1997. Perry and Frances were married on May 30, 1959.

Frances was a 1984 graduate of Youngstown State University and taught at Youngstown city schools for 14 years. She taught Title 1 Reading at John White and Paul C. Bunn, as well as East High School.

The two most important things to Frances were her faith and her family.

Frances would read her Bible every day until she could no longer read. She prayed diligently for her children, their spouses and her grandchildren. She has many prayer journals that are inspiring to read. Frances went on Missions trips to Thailand and Japan, sharing God’s love and the hope of the Gospel.

Frances was a proud mother and grandmother and loved being with her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, never missing an opportunity to spend time with them. She always tried to be at her grandchildren’s special occasions or school events, whether here in town, Florida or Australia. She traveled near and far to be with them.

Frances always enjoyed traveling and when her children were young, she and her husband would take them on summer vacations around the country in the family trailer. She often sewed matching outfits for the entire family to wear when traveling. She and her husband also liked to go camping locally in a tent, especially at Cooks Forest. Eventually the camper was parked at Lake Berlin and summer weekends were spent boating and sitting around the campfire having many a laughs.

Frances and her husband, Perry instilled an adventurous spirit in their children which has also been imparted to their grandchildren. All of whom who have traveled around the country and world and have also been involved in missions and spreading the Gospel.

Frances traveled on several cruises to the Bahamas, Alaska and her last was from Australia to the USA. She was always so friendly. She would always find something positive to say about the person with which she was conversing. She never met a stranger and had friends around the world.

She will be missed by all who were touched by her incredible friendliness, love and kindness, but especially her children, grandchildren and siblings.

She is survived by her three sons, Thomas P. Chickonoski (Valerie) of Perth, Australia, Perry J. Chickonoski Jr., (Pastor Joy) of Struthers, Kenneth J. Chickk (Rachel) of Naples, Fla. and her daughter, Karen F. Crogan (Douglas) of Canfield, with whom she made her home with for the past 18 years. Frances also leaves her grandchildren, Reece Chickonoski (Eliza) and Sarah Chickonoski, both from Perth, Australia, Carley Chickonoski, Cameron Chickonoski and Perry J. Chickonoski III, all of Struthers, Lena Crogan and Conor Crogan, both of Canfield, and Avia Chickk and Eliana Chickk, both from Naples.

Frances also leaves behind her siblings, Brigida Pecoraro Miller and Anthony Pecoraro VI from Michigan and, Nancy Adams from South Carolina, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church.

“Frances’ family would like to thank the people at the local Alzheimer’s Association for the wonderful resources they provided early in her diagnosis. They would also like to thank the staff at MVI hospice who provided much care and support for the past several years, as well as the private caregivers, without your help we could not have kept mom at home.”

“The care and compassion you gave to our mother is forever grateful in our hearts.”
