Francine Anne Marie Kollay, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2008 in Fairfax, Virginia as a result of heart failure. A resident of Twinsburg, Ohio since 1986, Mrs. Kollay was born in Pontivy, France on June 16, 1920. The third of six children to Henri and Marie Gohaut. Mrs. Kollay married Leo John Kollay Deceased March 1986 a member of the Greatest Generation, on March 16, 1946 in Paris, France. The couple met while Leo Kollay was serving in the U. S. Army during WWII.
Mrs. Kollay enjoyed classical music, French culture and cooking, reading, letter writing, travel and spending time with friends and family. She had a keen interest in world affairs and politics. She was a member of Le Cercle Francis de Youngstown, and was active in the International Institute of Youngstown where she prepared for her American citizenship. She was also active in the PTA's of West Elementary and Chaney High School and St. Brendan's Church.
Mrs. Kollay was a friend and helper to many in Twinsburg, Youngstown, Cleveland, and Fairfax, VA, She is survived by her children, Lt. Col. Daniel Patrick Margaret Kollay USMC Ret. Of Fairfax, VA, and Jocelyne Frank Linsalata of Gates Mills, OH, three grandchildren, Christina Keith Kollay Emery, Daniel Linsalata and Natalie Linsalata, great-granddaughter, Alexandra Kollay Emery; her surviving French family members include brothers-in-law Alian Cardou and Michel LeClainche, and many nieces and nephews of the Cardou, LeClainche, Michel, Gohaut, and Coeur families. She also is survived by her sister-in-law Betty McGivern and nieces and nephews of the Beaudis, Kolesar, Kollay and McGivern families.
Friends may call Thursday May 8th. from 4-8pm at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
Funeral services will be 9:30AM Friday May 9th. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10AM in St. Brendans Church. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
