Francis Hurley

YOUNGSTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday morning at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Boardman for Francis "Hank" Hurley, 90, who passed away early Tuesday morning.

Hank was born Nov. 26, 1920, in Youngstown, the son of the late Francis and Margaret Anderson Hurley.

Hank was a 1939 graduate of Ursuline High School, where he was a All Star center on both the football and basketball teams. He then served his country in Army during World War II. He later earned his Bachelors degree in three years from The Ohio State University in 1949. Hank was a project engineer for US Steel Ohio Works, retiring in 1980. He was a member of The Ohio State and Ursuline Alumni Associations, US Steel retirees golf league, the Elks and the Chestertin Club, and several bridge clubs. Hank also was a timer, starter and judge for local swim meets.

Hank leaves his wife, the former Mary E. Mahoney, whom he married Oct. 6, 1956; two daughters, Janie Bob Skusa of Canfield and Betsy Hurley of Tampa; three sons, Thomas F Hurley of Washington, D.C., Patrick J Hurley of San Francisco, and William B Hurley of Tampa; and a granddaughter Katie Hurley of New Orleans.

He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Francis Hurley and two sisters, Eleanor Norman and Patricia Devine.

Family and friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel and Friday morning from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at St. Luke Church.

Material tributes may take the form of donations to the Alzheimer's Association.

Hank's family would like to thank Sunrise Assisted Living, Southern Care Hospice, Briarfield at Ashley Circle and Dr. Thomas Burkert for their compassionate care.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
