AUSTINTOWN- Funeral services will be held Sunday, at 7 p.m. at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, officiated by Chaplain Daniel Smith, for Francis D. "Joe" Smith, who died Thursday morning at Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Smith was born on Dec. 2, 1943 in New Castle, son of Delmar and Wilda (Williams) Smith.
Joe came to this area in 1960, and began working independently as a truck driver, before retiring in 2007 after 40 years of service.
He loved hot rods, muscle cars, fixing things, and was a member of the local F.O.E.
Joe's wife Mary, whom he married on Aug. 29, 1967, died Dec. 19, 2014.
Joe will be greatly missed by his mother, Wilda Nutt, five children; Melissa (Paul) Sutara, of Austintown, Lonnie (Doug) Bobovnyik, of Salem, Daniel (Julie) Smith, of Boardman, William Fain, of Austintown, and Joe (Dawn) Smith, of Hermitage, two brothers; Donald and Lester Smith, 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Smith family would like to extent their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice House, and Dr. Patsy Buccino and staff for their compassionate care of Joe.
