AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will begin Tuesday at 9:20 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Parish for Frank S. Flauto, 82, who passed away Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at St. Elizabeth's Health Center in Youngstown, surrounded by his family and friends.
Frank was the first baby born on Jan. 1, 1936, at 12:15 a.m. in Youngstown, a son of the late Frank and Anna (Dominic) Flauto.
He was a 1955 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. Frank worked with Hy-Way Heat Systems for more than 30 years as a welder, and then with the Austintown Township Road Department until his retirement.
Frank was the happiest entertaining his family and friends and serving them his famous homemade pizza. He also had his yearly tradition of making wine with his best friends, Dick, Mike and Jim. He enjoyed going to the Boardman YMCA to meet his friends, and also catching up with everyone on Saturdays at LaVilla.
Frank is survived by his wife, Joanne (Sletvold) Flauto, whom he was happily married to for more than 60 years; his two daughters, Cathi (Mike) Kalinay and Sandy (Rich) Burns, both of Austintown; grandchildren Kristin (Bryan) Zufan of Stuart, Fla., Rachel (Timothy) Gaffney of Oakland, N.J., and Katie Burns of Lexington Ky.; two great-grandchildren, Harper and Hudson Zufan; a brother, Sam (Donna) Flauto; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Frank Flauto III.
Friends and family may call on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, from 5 to 8 p.m.
