Frank A Micchia Jr passed away peacefully at his home on 5/9/24 due to injuries sustained from a fall. People will remember him for his many accomplishments. Being a very gifted individual, he was a master of all trades. He was an artist who saw beauty and brought it to being, a photographer to capture life, and an avid gardener whose backyard was his sanctuary and envy of all. Prior to his passing, he chose to write his own obituary:

I was born on May 1, 1938, to Frank A. Micchia, an immigrant from Southern Italy, and his wife Anna Guyan Micchia in Youngstown, Ohio. I attended The Rayen High School and subsequently graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1960. I was then commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Reserve and served in the Second Infantry Division. After my discharge, I began a career at General Electric in various engineering and management positions for 35 years. There I met my wife Marcia D. Ondo; we were married in 1971.

Upon retirement I found many activities and hobbies to sustain my interests. I continued creating many stained-glass items and doing landscape design at my home. I started a picture framing business in my basement, learned to craft jewelry items and was awarded best of show ribbons at the Canfield Fair for my homemade bread and wine. I was very active in community affairs. Having an interest in city government, I attended City Council meetings for many years. I personally collected signatures for a number of charter amendments to the benefit of all. As for the debate over the merging of Canfield and Boardman Fire Departments, my contribution was, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” I was instrumental in getting designated parking spaces in a number of lots for Veterans and contributed to the building of the Veterans Plaza. I was also present at many School Board meetings.

I leave behind my wife Marcia of 53 years, Frank, the best son anyone could ask for and Leslie, the best daughter-in-law I ever had, as well as my sister Joanne Clay (Jack) and Linda Kaydo (Frank, deceased) and brother-in-law Ron Ondo and his wife Pat. I also leave nieces and nephews.

I was predeceased by my parents and my brother Joseph and his wife Kathy. We also lost our beloved daughter Kimberly Ann as a child, who never lost her cheerfulness despite many surgeries.

Canfield has been a good home to me.

His son will remember him for the father he was, his best teacher in life who gave him the path to become his own man and to never give up. He will always be grateful he got to call you Dad and love the memories forever. As a Father-in-law he possessed a generous spirit and loving heart. He spoiled his daughter in law like his own daughter. They had so many happy memories together. His daughter-in-law will love him and remember him as a second father forever.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7 PM Monday May 13th at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.

Prayers will be held at 9:15 AM Tuesday May 14th at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Michael Church.
