YOUNGSTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at noon at St. Charles Church for Frank Minenok, 85, who died early Sunday morning at Meridian Arms Nursing Home.
Frank was born March 11, 1928, in Midland, Pa., to Thomas and Anna Catherine (Zencheck) Minenok.
He was a 1946 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Frank spent many years working at School Choffin, where he built local highways in the area. He retired from GM Lordstown after 25 years of service.
Frank had a passion for animals, particularly cats. He would often take in stray animals, and would feed and nurture them back to health.
He was always very athletic and active. Frank spent many years professionally fighting in the light heavy weight division. He enjoyed music, dancing, being outdoors, and reading. Most of all, Frank was especially dedicated to his wife and to his children and grandchildren.
Frank is survived by his wife, the former Florence "Honey" Salvatore, whom he married nearly 65 years ago on Nov. 27, 1948; four daughters, Judith (David) Brownstein of Buffalo, N.Y., Jane Minenok of Austintown, Joan Yanchick of New Middletown, and Joy Minenok of Canfield; two sons, Russell (Deborah) Minenok of Boardman and Patrick (Roberta) Minenok of New Castle, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Carol Minenok of Austintown; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Frank Minenok Jr.; and son-in-law John Yanchick.
Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon at the church.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Animal Charity, 4140 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
Professional arrangements are being handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
