YOUNGSTOWN - Private family services will be held for Fred J. Fawcett, 90, of Youngstown's Westside, who died early Sunday morning at Sunrise Assisted Living in Poland.
Fred was born June 5, 1920, in Youngstown, the son of Fred A. and Catherine Murphy Fawcett.
Fred served in the US Army's 100th Division in Germany, during World War II. He had worked at Truscon Steel, a division of Republic Steel Corp for over 32 years before retiring in 1978. He was a former member of St. Brendan Church.
Fred is survived by his niece, Mrs. Kathy Fawcett Slavens and her husband, Brian Slavens and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas E. Fawcett in 1996; a niece, Patty Minnie in 1984; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Fawcett in 2005.
The family has requests that material tributes take the form of donations to the Kidney Foundation in Fred's memory.
