Fred J. Romeo passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025 at The Inn at Poland Way, Poland, Ohio.

Fred was born August 8, 1930 in Lowellville, Ohio, a son of Samuel and Concetta Spataro Romeo.

In 1960, Fred built his own home and became a resident of Poland, Ohio, until moving to Inn at Poland Way in August, 2023. He was a member of Holy Family Church in Poland, Knights of Columbus Struthers Council 4224, American Legion Post 247, and Saint Luke Parish Holy Name Society where he attended mass on Tuesdays and Fridays, and the Mt. Carmel Society of Lowellville.

Fred was a proud veteran in the U.S. Army, stationed in Stuttgart, Germany during the Korean War, serving from September 25, 1951 until he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on September 4, 1954. He worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube as an armature winder until the mills closed in 1980, and after that at Lyons Physician Supply Company until his retirement at the age of 65. Fred was a carpenter, electrician, plumber, and was called by many to build and repair many items throughout the years.

Fred Married Margaret Varsho on December 12, 1953. Margaret died on October 1, 2011.

He is survived by his children, Cindy (Joe) Weiss of Medina, Fred (Kim) Romeo of Poland, Linda (Greg) Greene of Poland, and Gina (Jeff) Rogers of Medina and his eight grandsons, Michael, Brian, Stephen (Ali), Freddie (Adriana), Samuel (Leah), James, Jacob and Dylan, and great granddaughter Margaret Rose Weiss.

Besides his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Joseph and Samuel, and his sisters Virginia Crabtree, Rose Whittier, Mary Esposito, Fran Manolio, Theresa Spotleson and Josephine Sacco.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Inn at Poland Way for taking care of Fred with compassion. He called the Inn his home and enjoyed his time living there.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday February 14, 2025 at 11AM at Holy Family Church in Poland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Holy Family Church, 2729 Center Road, Poland, OH 44514 or Saint Luke Holy Name Society, 5235 South Avenue, Boardman, OH 44512.
