Fred Schuller

CANFIELD - Services will be Monday morning at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Fred H. Schuller, 82, who died Thursday morning at the Hospice House.

Fred was born Nov. 10, 1931, in Youngstown, the son of Edward M. and Gladys (Golladay) Schuller.

He had worked at Fithian Contracting retiring as a foreman after 30 years. He was also the owner of the Roger Dog Food Co., and later became the president and co-owner of the Ohio Pet Food Corporation.

He was a member of Argus Lodge No. 545 and had served as a Cub Scout Master in Canfield. He was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church, where he had taught Sunday School and was a lifetime member of the Mahoning County Coon Hunters Club, where he enjoyed cooking for his fellow sportsman. Fred also enjoyed antiquing with his wife, cooking, and sharing in his grandchildren's activities. Fred will be remembered as a world class handyman, a family man with an unwavering faith and a strong work ethic.

His wife, the former Dona Rice, whom he married May 8, 1954, died Aug. 30, 2009.

He is survived by a daughter, Gretchen (John) Fernstrom of Canfield; two sons, Mark (Linda) Schuller of North Canton and Todd (Debbie) Schuller of Boardman; eight grandchildren, Katie and Tim Fernstrom, Kelly (Ryan) DeGeorge, Sergeant Todd (Jade) Schuller II, USMC, Kevin Schuller, Brian (Sara) Schuller, Erin (Atty. Mark) Lindsey and Tyler Schuller and his fiancé Kayle Bing; and six great-grandchildren, Grace and Lainey DeGeorge, Paxton and Ava Schuller, Elliana Lindsey and Landon Schuller.

Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Miller and Sara Jane Tufts.

The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Hospice House in Fred's memory.

The family would like to thank his medical team, the staff of Ironwood Commons, the staff at Canfield Dialysis Center, and Hospice House, his caregivers especially, Patti and Jane for their compassionate care.
