POLAND - Prayers will begin Friday morning at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church for Gemma M. Rauso Thomas, 79, who died early Tuesday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Gemma was born Oct. 9, 1932, in New Castle, Pa., the daughter of Frank and Mary DeMasi Rauso.
She was a 1950 graduate of New Castle High School and later worked at the Reliable Luggage Company in West Pittsburgh. She was a member of St. Luke Church and was an avid baker and especially enjoyed cooking for her family making great sauce every Sunday while listening to her Italian music. She also was an avid bowler.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Thomas, whom she married July 31, 1955; a daughter, MaryAnn at home; a son, Arthur Sue Thomas of Boardman; three sisters, Madeline Gurneal of New Castle, MaryAnn Rauso of New Castle and Regina Carl Chiafullo of Wampum; a brother, James G. Judy Rauso of Hermitage, Pa.; two grandchildren, A.J. and Jessica Thomas; and also nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Thomas; a brother, Mickie F. Rauso; and three sisters, Rose Marcantino, Vivian Rauso and Francine Carabbia.
